READING

Our reading groups use the SRA Reading Mastery curriculum to focus on building reading fluency and comprehension. Small groups of students work togethter to strengthen reading skills using materials at their individualized instructional level. In addition to the SRA program, older students explore novels like Fantastic Mr. Fox, Charlotte's Web, and Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing. Click on the image below for more information on the SRA curriculum, including sample student materials.

WRITING

Our writing program, Write from the Beginning, is a vertically alligned curriculum used from grades K-5. During our writing groups, early writers focus on the basics of letter formation, sentence structure, and the conventions of English grammar. Older students transfer these skills into essays across several genres of writing: narrative, opinion, expository, and response to literature. At the core of the program are Thinking Maps, graphic oragnizers that are used daily with each grade level to help students organize their creative ideas into carefully crafted written work. Students become very familiar with the Write from the Beginning approach to writing, as it is the same program they use for writing during science and social studies lessons in the general education classroom. Click the image below for more information on our writing curriculum.

MATH

In our math groups, students work closely with a teacher to develop fluency in basic facts, improve number sense, and learn problem solving strategies. Grades 1-4 use the enVision curriculum from Pearson Realize (link to online tour below). This is the same curriculum students are exposed to in the general education classroom, and focuses on Common Core grade level standards.
